SB400 - 300 cables

I am restoring a SB400 xmtr and SB300 rcvr. I need seven coax cables to connect the two units for transceiver operation. The manual states that they should be RG-62U type cables. Are the lengths critical? How critical is the coax type? I have plenty of RG-8 and 58, can I use that?
