Hi Heath gang,
As I told you in last message, yesterday I rebuilt the faulty toroidal
transformer. Once done, I sweep-checked T202 and it worked just fine :-).
So I put a signal and, voila, aligning grid and plate coils I got nice 9+
readings at higher bands (14, 21, 28, ...) in the default (for each band)
preselector location. I checked also the rig with 'real world' (i.e.
antenna) signals and it performed very well. So far, so good.
But I have not been able to do same thing in two lower bands (3.5 and 7.0
MHz). Plate and grid coils do not affect the S-meter reading (which is
about a 6) with the CAL activated. Curiously enough, 3.5MHz coils are
always in the circuit, so they are not open. I need to put preselector
fully counterclockwise to get improved CAL signal reception but it seems I
would need more capacitance to get into the peak... I have read some info
about similar troubles in the past, but I can't locate it know. Any idea?
All in all, I am very happy so far, as the set came completely dead and now
is starting to come back to life. And I am learning a lot about its
circuitry, which is what I most enjoy.
Best regards and a very happy 2001 beginning!
JOSE
