question ss-9000

Hello all, I have a question about the ss-9000. Was the auto band switch an
option on the ss-9000 or did it come with the rig ?  And did you need it
for the rig to work, or was that just for changing bands with the matching
hl-2000 amp ?                                           tnx w9cau  terry
