Q-multiplier

OK...just to show how much of a tube-rookie I am...the next question:

What exactly did/does the Q-multiplier do, and why might I be interested in
adding one to my station?  I understand the concept of the Q of a resonant
circuit (at least enough to pass my Advanced exam a couple of months back,
HI HI), but I'm trying to figure out what exactly the Q-Multiplier does and
the advanatges of using one.
