Xtal grinding

I,ve never ground crystals to move them up in frequency, but you can
easily move them down by "coloring" one or both sides with permanant
magic marker (like from a Sanford "Sharpie" pen). You must leave the
corners where the metal plate contacts the crystal clear. Most crystals
can be moved 15-25Khz this way on 40M. The amount they move is dependent
on the crystal activity, and how much ink is applied. The nice thing is,
the ink is easily cleaned off with ordinary isopropyl alcohol, and can
be redone over and over again, with the crystal always returning to
original freq when cleaned.
