Heathkits and Victorian morality

Will someone explain to me what the rationale is behind the objection that many people have to items for auction being mentioned in newsgroups?Why is this wrong?

How does it harm this,or any other group as long as the item relates directly and specifically to the interests of the group?



The chance that so many such items would be mentioned that this group became transformed into an extension of ebay or Yahoo Auctions is so unlikely as not to deserve discussion.It almost seems as though certain news group members have a moral or ethical objection to other people making money,as though it was somehow tainting or defiling our hobby to make even an occasional buck at it.Why?



I get the feeling that I am dealing with some weird,Victorian age derived concept that money brings pleasure and is therefore somehow immoral,and tends to taint the "purity" of a hobby pursued for somehow "higher" ideals than personal gain.This is pure crap!There is nothing wrong with money and the concept of personal profit providing it is pursued in an ethical manner.



This does not mean that I advocate turning this group into an extension of any auction site!And,I don't want to see ladie's girdles and Mickey Mouse comic books being referenced to ebay auctions,here, in this Heath group,**and** I would limit the number of such references if it began to get out of hand.Otherwise...let's not complain about it being a bad thing.
