Tightening dial stringing

Hi again,

The tuning mechanism of my AR-14 stereo receiver is slipping, apparently
due to stretching of the dial cord over the (many) years... looks like
the best fix would be to first remove the metal "ends," within which the
cord ends are crimped, uncrimp and pull some cord through to re-tension,
and then carefully recrimp and re-attach.

Anybody have a better procedure?
