The drop in PIP level at center frequency is caused by the low impedance of
the receiver filter when the signal is tuned in.  See CQ, february, 1970,
page 89.  Further information on this subject can be found in CQ, october,
l969, page 72.

I do not have the 1969 CQ article.  If anyone has this issue I would be happy
to get a copy.
