John: I enjoyed your working thru the HW9 trouble you had and sharing it
with the list. Your emails were a model for us to follow in that
technique.
Over the years I have acquired all the Heath QRP rigs HW 7-9. The 7 is
a real challenge. Basically it came with a non-receiver. One could call
it a rf sensitive device, but one would be hard pressed to describe
its input circuit as a receiver. There are many well known mods that
replace or augment the stock circuit to get a hot receiver. If you need
references please contact me. But I decided to try it the hard way.
After all that is the challenge of qrp. So I did put a good audio filter
down wind to narrow the bandwidth. Then I fiddled and tweaked. Finally I
had a couple qso on the darn thing stock (if one ignores the added audio
filter). But it is qrp squared or maybe cubed if you are thinking on the
patience needed to get anywhere. But that is a charm all its own.
