Ray:

The HW-24 and HW-24H were true twin-band transcievers. You could
simultaneously listen to the VHF (144-147.995 MHz) and UHF (438-449.995 MHz)
amateur bands. The receiver portion of the transceiver could be relatively
easily modified to cover much wider band. For example, mine easily covers
the 162 MHz weather frequencies and 465 public service band.

By pressing a button on the front of the transceiver, you could select which
of the above amateur bands you wanted to transmit on at a given time. The
transceiver could also be set as a cross-band repeater. Although not legal
due to it not being type accepted for use on non-amateur bands, the
transmitter could also be easily wide-banded. The power output depended upon
the specific model, 1-watt (low) and 10-watts (high) for the HW-24, or
5-watts (low) and 40-watts (UHF-high)/ 50-watts (VHF-high) for the HW-24H.

The transceiver had two separate antenna connectors for UHF and VHF. These
could be combined with a duplexer so that a dual-band antenna with a single
coaxial cable could be used.

There were 24 memory channels, 10 per band. Transmitter/Receiver offset and
PL tone for each channel could be memorized.

The transceiver was manufactured by Marantz, and commonly sold in the US
under the Standard name. The Standard model that comes to mind is the C-528,
but don't quote me on that.

Hope this helps everyone.
