Unscientific Poll

Hello All,

I would like to say that I think the idea for a new and better kit manufacturer is one who's time has come. While I am not familiar with any of the newer makers of electronic kits with the exception of Ramsey and Ten Tech,it seems that most of the ham kits on the market today are geared toward the QRP enthusiast. I would like to see a medium powered transceiver 50-100 watts, with SSB and CW capability and it doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles, the memories, dual vfo's and such, just a good solid rig that would be affordable for the newcomer and old timer alike. I think there is still a place for uncomplicated design in today's radio market. It doesn't have to be microprocessor controlled,a digital readout would be nice though. I think this can be accomplished with a little well thought out design work and common sense. No need to overcomplicate it. I think that this would make for a very popular kit. I am not a business man or an electronics design engineer so I may just be dreaming, but I would support an effort to bring quality kits back to the ham arena. Oh, and make it look like a ham rig,not a little plastic box with a couple of knobs sticking out, there's a lot to be said for a good looking product.
My answers to the survey:
1) Yes,a Ramsey Tone decoder/encoder,it was $7.95
2) Radio equipment and accessories
3) I wouldn't have a problem with this.
4) a,b or c would be okay
5) Reviving the Heath name would be nice but not absolutely necessary, I think that Knight kit would be cool too.
6) Good question, I think that it can be done though with the right product.

Good luck Brian
