Powerstat model 20 variac

Does anyone have a wiring diagram, or source for getting one, for
Superior Electric Type 20 Powerstat? I have an apparently healthy bare
one, which has 5 terminals. I would like to hook it up to provide soft
start and reduced voltage for my tube rigs. Tag says rated at 115 vac 3
amps, so should be just about right.

Does anyone know of a home buildable automated soft start circuit (you
turn it on, it gives the rig lower voltage for 10 seconds or so, then
switches on full power). There is a circuit in QST from August 1985 that
features an Amperite thermal delay relay, but those are about $100 new
anyway now. There ought to be a cheaperyet effective junk box way.
