Floyd,
Heath designed the IM-17 using an 8.4 V mercury battery for the meter
amplifier and a 1.5 V for the Ohms cct.
The 1.5 V is a standard C cell (NEDA #14) and the mercury 8.4 V is a NEDA
#1611.
You may have trouble finding the mercury battery as I don't believe they are
making any mercury batteries anymore. However, a std. 9 V alkaline will work
fine if you can make it fit. There is lots of headroom in the meter cct. for
a little more voltage.
Maybe some of the other guys here have some other battery suggestions as well.
Regards,
Gary.
