Heath AM transmitter

Gene...

Your SB-301 will be FB on AM, but---assuming you have the "stock" Heath AM
filter in it---you'll probably be doing a lot of "slope tuning" if you
appreciate the highs in audio, & not just the lows!

The '301 AM filter is a "communications quality"-type unit: maybe you'll
like it, who knows. Depends upon your hearing characteristics/preferences.
The magic elixer amongst AM fans of the Heath set is the AM filter from the
SB-310 GENERAL COVERAGE SWL receiver, which is broader.

You can always BUILD your own, which has been done, using new crystals & a
stock SSB filter...

As for your transmitter, there are lots about, but these days PRICE will be
the deciding factor, unfortunately! Years ago, you couldn't GIVE AWAY an old
Apache, or B&W transmitter, or a Valiant, & now they're easily commanding
prices which were unheard of until recently...

Best bet is to be patient, & look around, especially at local Hamfests.
Don't go by eBay prices alone! And good luck!

Subject: Heath AM transmitter

Would like to do a little work on AM. I have a fine SB 301 receiver but
will need an AM transmitter to get out. Am not interested in investing a
lot of money but would like fine TX unit to use. Would like to know how
well my SB 301 should do as a receiver? What TX unit would be good to use?
Appreciate any help I can muster.
