     2. #404-205 3393.6 kHz LSB crystal
are the USB and LSB sideband generator crystals which have to be in every
transmitter, regardless. These are located on a small bracket under the
chassis, while the heterodyne crystals are in the left front when you lift
the lid. Sorry Jerry, but you're going to need to find them before your 401

Bob - to further clarify an already confusing situation, your statement is
true only if the SB-401 is not being used in conjunction with a companion RX
such as the SB-301. In case where the RX is used in tranceive mode, the USB
and LSB signals normally come from the RX BFO. That is why they were not
included except in the optional pack which made the SB-401 a "standalone" TX.
The CW crystal was always included because it was used to tune the rig and
provide proper offset for CW. In fact, the most annoying thing about a stock
401 is that the TX CW oscillator can be heard faintly in the RX. Various
mods were developed to deal with this problem.

In summary a SB-401 was sold stock to run tranceive with the SB-3xx series
RX. It will do that without the optional pack and the USB/LSB crystals.
Good luck Jerry, I have 4 sets of the Heath twins they run fine, some with
and some without the optional packs.
