Unbuilt Heathkit GR-64

Maybe it is a "crappy radio", but mine still works 34 years later, having
had nothing done to it. It was my first Heathkit. In fact it was my first
kit. The fact that it had bands marked "Amateur" is what got me into ham
radio. I sold it to a friend for $10 in about 1985. He sold it to another
friend in about 1990 for $10. I bought it back from the 2nd friend in 1998
for $10. It now holds a place of prominence in my shack, and I won't let it
go again. I remember having discussions in high school with a friend who
bought a Knight-Kit Star Roamer, who maintained his radio was better. It may
have been more comparable to a GR-54, I don't know. But I know that I
listened to a lot of broadcasts, marine radio and other stuff on it before
getting a "real" ham-band-only radio (NC-270).
