Reforming capacitors...

In my clear efforts to overload the list, here's yet another question...

I know there is a "good" way to bring old rigs up slowly to line voltage in
order to go easy on their capacitors. I assume it involves pitting the rig
on Standby and starting the line voltage at some value and bringing the unit
up slowly over the course of hours.

I have a 7.5A Variac.... and I'd like to do this to my SB-401 (and possibly
my SB-303 if it is OK to do it on solid state units)... so I just need to
know where to start and how long to do it?

Any thoughts from the list on this?
