Very good point about LM 317.
There is a few cases to pick from.
Good for about 1.5 amps.

I have replaced many ODD ball reg. with the 317.
There is 3 amp ver. and 120V also.,as long as NEG reg.
Just 2 resistors needed.
Can even use it as a current limminter.

many supplyers of 317 series regs. ic's.
