They all will work on AM. However, at a very low
level when compared with their SSB level. Usually,
the AM level is from 25 to 33 percent of the SSB / CW
level. This is due to the 100 percent duty cycle of
AM as compared to much less for SSB or even CW. Both
the tubes and the power supply are being pushed to
their limits by this lower continuous duty usage.
Usually, unless you are running a very low power level
on AM (50 watts or less), running a linear won't do
that much for you.
I'm not that sure as to how much power the Marauder
puts out on AM. If it is like the Pacemaker and other
SSB transmitters of that era, then it puts out about
40 or 50 watts maximum on AM. If you load the
amplifier to about 300 to 400 watts input then it
should be OK. That is the level that Heath
recommended for the Warrior amplifier. You will get
about 200 to 225 watts output at this level when
running 400 watts input.
