Recently, someone asked about Apache mods on this list. Couldn't find
my list at the time, but here is what I have now:
All these mods will be found in QST:
May, '59, p.44, Review of the TX.
Jun '59, p.62, Correcting Grid Current
Dec '59, p. 52, Spotting Switch Mod (I did not find this desireable on
mine)
Mar '60, p. 48, Adjustment Made Easy
Ignore any mods to the modulator or speech amp. All the "problems"
reported about this section of the TX were the result of poorly written
Heath instructions about how to set the compression threshhold and the
modulation level, as well as very poor mechanical design which put the
actual mike level control inside the cabinet where it has to be reached
with a small slotted screwdriver through the key jack, and the
compression threshold control on the front panel where the volume
control normally would be. Good luck to anyone who can find the slot in
the control through the key jack! Read the instructions VERY carefully,
and the proper method of setting up the modulation will eventually
become clear.

Keith
