GR-78 Batteries - Question

Mark,
That's a very common problem with the GR-78's!
    I used eight AA-style NiCads, a nine-volt battery snap, and an eight-AA
battery holder (the flat one that holds 4 AA's on each side). First make
the main battery connections (9.6V) with the 9-volt snap to the red and
black wires in the set. Then you need to solder one of the connections on
the battery holder to split the voltage to match the original battery (4.8V
tap - yellow wire). I mounted the battery using wire ties connected to the
original battery hold-down screws.
This arrangement works just like the original and doesn't involve
drilling holes, adding power supplies, etc. And, it works great - several
days worth from one charge!

Good luck - it's a great little radio!

PS - Be careful of the handle - mine snapped just the other day and I
haven't had much luck finding one. Also, the smaller knobs tend to split in
half!
