I think the -610 transformers don't fail from fusing but insulation failure
and eventually short circuits or open circuits, at least in the ones I've
seen. The current at which that wire gauge will fuse is considerable higher
than the operating current.
We also don't know but can only hope the transformer mfr's knew enough not
to handle extremely find wire with bare hands as wire mfr's warn against
long term corrosion from hand oils/ acidic sweat etc.
