question for the group:
an hw 18 would be great to have, but would it be good for anything
else but just having? does the CAP use the 4 mhz band anywhere in
the country anymore or does it just use the vhf frequencies?

Ray,
The HW18-3 is a two channel crystal controlled monobander for use on
160M. It uses LSB or the carrier insertion method of AM. It's possible to
modify the clarifier to use it as a VXO to get more coverage on the band. I
have one and it works very well.

The HW-18 series came in three variants: The -1 and -2 were for CAPS and the
-3 for 160M. I don't know if the first two could be made to work on 75M.
Hope this helps out.
