HW 12 no audio on rcv

Recently acquired TWO Heath HW 12 xcvrs. Neither has ANY receiver noise!
Only time noise is heard in speaker is turn on with slight thud or on one of
them when I wiggle the audio output tube. Does anyone know if this is a
common problem with the HW12? Since both of mine  are MUTE, seems to be a
common problem (for my two at least). Any suggestions and advice will be
