Mike, I have usually preferred shipping and receiving shipments by using the
Post Office. However, in these unprecendented times, the Post Office may not
be safe anymore in many ways.

Last week I received a shipment here in Ontario, Canada via United Parcel
Service. I ordered a radio from the UK, and had requested shipping via the
Post Office. Well, they sent it by UPS either in error or on purpose(I think
the latter). I have not ever had any problems with UPS damaging my goods,
despite reports of horror stories from other people, but I took a disliking
to them because they charge a brokerage fee of a mininum of $30 in addition
to duty and taxes for goods brought into Canada from other countires. The
Canadian Post Office only charges $5 for the same service. A HUGE difference
for the same thing.

It turns out that considering all the problems in the Post Office with
anthrax, shipping by a private company(=courier) is probably the wisest
thing to do now. UPS and FEDEX use their own planes, and their own
facilties. Until Osama bin Laden and his deranged cronies target UPS and
FEDEX(shhh, don't give him any ideas!), the couriers are safer and faster.
My package from the UK took only SIX days to arrive including UPS processing
through customs. And this time they charged zero brokerage fee for some
reason! Harvey.
