America Under Attack

There is a difference between "war hysteria" and recognizing that one is
_IN_ a war. While I agree that this mailing list may not be the right place
to discuss politics, it is also hard to imagine anyone whose thoughts are
focused in on ham radio at this particular time in history. Folks who do
sort of remind me of the folks who complained because their soap operas were
interrupted during the Gulf War.

We all know the stories of brothers who fight like cats and dogs, but who
team together when some stranger begins picking on either. In peacetime, we
can all argue about abortion or homosexuality or stem cell research or Gore
v. Bush. Before W.W. II, people were arguing about Roosevelt's liberal
approach to bringing the country out of recession, about states' rights,
about isolationism, and about whether we should help the Brits. Some, like
poet Ezra Pound and pilot Charles Lindbergh thought that maybe Hitler and
Mussolini were right on.

But when the shooting starts, it's time to all pull together behind our
elected leaders. This is _NOT_ the time for sibling rivalry. In case it
might have slipped by you, the shooting _HAS_ started. Arguing about whose
fault it is accomplishes nothing. Hang your American flag, send in all the
aid money you can spare, give blood, and support your government.

I saw some posts suggesting forums for discussion of the recent attacks on
the U.S. I would like to suggest a forum for some posts I have seen on this
list:

alt.FASCISM.misc

I thought at one time that mixing amateur radio and politics was in very bad
taste, obviously that is no longer the case. War hysteria has gripped many
of you so tightly that I can't believe these are some of the same people who
have been so friendly and helpful in the past. Now it seems that any posts
that offer reason and beg restraint are labled "bleeding hearts", "liberals"
or simply anti-American. Sad, very sad indeed.
