Hot Water 32A mod

Here's a Heath trivia question:  Was there ever a magazine article about a mod to
the HW-32A that involved replacing the mic gain pot?  The Hot Water 32A I got last
week has a dual-concentric pot installed in place of the stock mic gain pot where
the added section seems to change RF or IF gain.   The dual pot has a level knob
just like the AF gain pot, but I can't see why someone would make this mod, given
the RF Attenuator works just fine...

I'd also be interested in hearing from anyone who has one of the Dynalab tri-band
conversions...
