I think what was in them was a very viscous silicone grease, similar to what
was used on the cueing lever on a turntable tonearm (record player, i.e.,
LP, for the youngsters).

I bought some replacement grease somewhere once, but good luck nowadays.
Heat sink compound - I don't know if I'd wanna try that.
