DUD and DOA

DUD is dud: useless, junk, not working (as in "we dropped the bomb but it
was a dud and didn't go off")
DOA is Dead On Arrival. Not DOA usually means the lights work but the rest
is anybody's guess.
Another version we used at Radio Shack was "Dead out of the box" - not a
good sign!
