HW-101 drive problem with coil cover installed

Bobby. Are you sure the "full output on all bands" with the coil cover off
is really the output you want?? I had a very similiar problem on my
SB-102....Turns out the full output I thought I was getting with the coil
cover off was an oscillation and not really the proper RF output. With the
shield on I got zero output because my LMO (VFO in your case) was not
working.....

I have an interesting problem I would like to get the advice of the list
on.
A HW-101 I am restoring has developed (not sure what or how) an interesting
problem.  I get full output on all bands until I put the coil cover on.  I
have traced this to a sensitivity on the shield separating the drive grid
coils from the driver plate coils, specifically at the top of the shield
toward the inside of the rig.  If I put a screwdriver in the comb groove
which the shield goes into (doing this makes the contact between the shield
and comb good), my output drops from around 100W out to only 10-20W.  My
other rig has no sensitivity in this area.  I have looked carefully at my
other HW-101 and made sure the grounding, etc... in that area on this rig
is
the same and intact.  I am thinking it is something in the 6CL6 driver, but
not sure what.  Any ideas?
