Hi Gary - although I have many 1930's radio's running on their
originals, I generally replace them. I leave the original can mounted
but disconnected on the chassis and replace with modern axial lead parts
under the chassis. NOS can electrolytic are pretty pricey and may be no
better than what you are replacing if it is bad. You can generally pick
up a bunch of axial lead electrolytics for under $10 where an NOS
replacement if you can find one is in the $30-50 range. I have used this
method on dozens of antique broadcast radios and many boatanchors. I
have purchased the axial lead electrolytics for Antique Electronic
Supply and Frontier capacitor.
