Vernier Dial?

I think there's two fixes here:
1) find out what is causing the need for so much torque to be required
through the vernier. Fix that....
2) Get old gunk grease/dirt out of vernier. Most of them can be disassembled
and repacked with grease.
Between the above, I bet you'll find you have a functioning vernier!
