I am repairing a heathkit AR-3 that has a bad 455 kc if transformer the cap.s across the windings are made from what looks like silver plated mica and started to break down and spark. I removed the caps and replaced them with caps outside the transformer looks like they were 75 or so pf caps. my question is. Is the metal plate that was holding this mica cap together was it adding any capacitance between windings that affect the way the transformer works.I have replaced many of these transformers over the years and never gave this any thought. I did try 2 150 pf. caps in series across each winding and then put a cap. from the junction of these caps to each other and i seem to have less loss. I did tune the transformers.Does anyone have any thoughts on this and if you can still geT these transformers. 73's JOHN WA2IZB
