Often tube shields were made of "mu-metal", the same stuff used to make enclosures for VFO and similar circuitry. The mumetal prevented radiation in/ out of the devices it enclosed. The mumetal shields are probably gripped by similar metal spring fingers riveted to the tube base and chassis ground. Although a fussy job, you can clean these up with a Dremel tool and the cloth wheels, apply the same type of cleaner that is used on glass stove tops. This is a fine abrasive that doesn't scratch the hard glass used on cooktops, but cleans off baked on material.
You might be succesful looking for mumetal shields at hamfests.
