6146W

If the code date on the 6146W is before early 1964,
then it is the equivalent of either the 6146 or 6146A
(the difference between the "plain" and "A" is in the
"make up" of the filament). Starting sometime in
1964, the military went to the 6146B equivalent 6146W.
However, there was no change in the nomenclature of
the tubes. Also, some tube manufacturers did not
start making the 6146B equivalent tubes for almost a
year after RCA introduced the 6146B, and, since there
is, to my knowledge, no list of when this was actually
done, you have to "assume" that any 6146W with a 1964
code date or later is the 6146B.

Since the 6146B is NOT a direct replacement for the
6146 / 6146A series (sometimes they work in the older
equipment and sometimes they don't!), you have to be
VERY careful about using the 6146W tubes.

The 6146W is the rugged military version of the 6146
right?
