300 ohm twinlead question

Hi Ray,

Have never seen ratings for receiving twinlead, but have used it myself at
100 watts with no problems on ZL special antennas and such.

Be careful some companies like Radio Shack are making a small 300 ohm
twinlead that is not as wide as the "original" version. They do this by using
a smaller gauge wire and what appears to be a slightly different dielectric
material.

Belden and others did at one time make a 300 ohm TRANSMITTING style twinlead
that was advertised at 1 KW. I have seen it before and it is heavy duty stuff
with 18 gauge wire and weighs 4 3/4 lbs per 100 feet (double normal
twinlead). The Belden number was 8235. I used it on a 20M ZL special and it
worked fine. You can try Belden's website at www.belden.com to see if they
still list it. If not try some of their older distributors as many do not
clean out their stock whem things are discontinued. I worked for a Belden
distributor from 1971 to 1981 and I only remember selling a small amount of
it.
