Thermal couplings

I have an AA-15 amp that I can play at full volume if I want but when I go
through my eq.,audio processor and expander I cant get past a quarter volume
and the thermal couplings kick out.I've taken it to heath stores which claim
they played at a full load all day and nothing happened.(is that possible
without speakers attached?).Could it be the amp or its tape out,tape
monitor,or one of the components,and their tape out to tape monitors?
