I would say if you are lucky its #1. If it's #2 ...more difficult to
fix but Mike Shelton makes excellent reproductions.

#1 it's just out of adjustment (see the manual....loosen the nut
on the shaft, make sure the vernier pinch roller is engaged
properly and retighten the nut.

#2 over the years all the SB plastic dials develop stress cracks
at the hub (OK as long as they stay there) when these line up
with one of the 4 mounting points of the drive ring ("15", "40", "65",
and "90") the dial can crack out to the edge throught those points
because that's where the rotational force is applied. This loosens
the drive ring and it will slip in certain positions. I've also looked
at the dial closely and have noted a slight manufacturing tooling
mark at the "15" making it the weakest point of the four and the
one most likely to crack. Might check your unit for this.

If you over adjust the pinch roller you will see the crack widen.
If the unit takes abuse in shipping you will see the crack widen.
