HW-101 erratic on 80 and 40 metets

It is very possible that one, or more, of the plates
have been slightly bent.  Also, there may have been an
"arc over" at one time that caused a "bump" on one of
the plates.  The "fix" is to put an ohm-meter across
the capacitor (put the bandswitch in a position where
the capacitor is not used) and start turning it.  When
the meter shows a short, carefully examine the rotor
plates to see what is happening.  If the plate is
bent, bend it the other way (you may have to do this
several times before you get it "just right").  If
there is a "bump" on the plate, use sandpaper, etc.,
to get rid of it.
