[Heathkit] HM 10A Tunnel Dipper coil Identification

The Tunnel Dipper coils are color coded the same colors as the range bands on the
dial drum. The only odd exception will be the highest VHF range. The tunnel dipper
suffers
from an ambient temperature problem. That is to say, if you take it from a cool
place
to a warm place or vice-versa, it will take a long time for the DC amplifier
circuitry
to stabilize! It is "touchy" to set and the reading will drift up or downscale until
the amplifier settles down! It wasn't one of Heath's "premier" engineering feats by
any stretch of the imagination.
Best "dipper" I have is the Measurements model 59, followed up by the old
vacuum tube Millen Grid Dip meter. The solid state Millen model 90652 works
OK, but does not seem as "sensitive" as the vacuum tube models. Of the "kit"
tube grid dippers, the EICO is superior to the Heathkit and has a greater frequency
range. Both designs are almost identical and use the 6AF4 tube.

Sandy W5TVW
