E-bay prices driven up?

In the Nov CQ is an interview with Joe Walsh of the
Eagles.  He bought a Hallicrafters SX-88 for $4000, it
says in the article.  Also in a reply that rock stars
are driving up the prices of ham gear on E-bay- he
says hams are just a bunch of old farts.
My question -  what is so special about the SX-88?
I own an SX-115 Hallicrafters.
