Varian was affiliated with Eimac...I don't remember all the details.

Eimac was Eitel-McCullough (hope I spelled it right), and there was also a
Varian Associates division that made travelling wave tubes or the amplifiers
for microwave communications. The association may simply have been that one
guy made the amps and the other guys made the tubes.

I don't know it's useful or just historical.
