Former resident granted parole
Doctor had been sentenced to 25 years to life
The Desert Sun
July 27th, 2002 A former valley physician sentenced to 25 years to life in
prison for conspiring to murder his estranged wife won his most recent bid
for freedom.
The State Board of Prison Terms has granted parole for Donald Miller, whose
high-profile case went to trial in Indio in 1980.
Miller, a Desert Sands Unified School District board member at the time,
conspired to kill Susan Claire Miller, 32, between December 1978 and January
1979. She was not harmed because Miller was caught in a police undercover
operation.
Miller, 66, was unsuccessful in earlier appeals of his case and attempts to
get paroled.
A Board of Prison Terms panel previously granted him parole twice, but Gov.
Gray Davis blocked his release both times.
