Jerry,
By AM carrier, do you mean the carrier is not suppressed even though the
audio is there? I think it's the 200 ohm "carrier balance" pot. Those
particular pots are bad things. I've replaced them on four SB-401's, a
SB-101 and a HW-101. The SB-101 I built in 1968 and it worked for years and
then, one day, the signal was as you describe yours. The pot suddenly opened
up.

The fix is to replace the balance pot with a 3/8 square 10 turn trimpot,
mounted on the top side of the board. They are available from Mouser and
Digitek for about $2.00. You should also replace the 240 ohm resistors.

This should fix your rig.
