HW -8, Dial Illumination

Hello,

Has anyone come-up with a modification that enables the main frequency dial
to
be illuminated from behind?

I already back-lite the meter but the metal disk that supports the plastic
frequency
dial prevents this. Can the metal disk be removed and replaced with a clear
plate
and not affect operation?
