Circuit Board corrosion

HI, I recently aquired an unbuilt heathkit, When I opened the box to start
assembly I found that the circuit board traces are darkened and will not take
solder. Is there a simple way to clean the boards and remove the corrosion so I
can start installing the components. Thanks for any help.  JIM
