Hopefully one of the Heathkit guys here will have a definitive answer.

I seem to recall that the earlier units were made with the "Custom built"
black unit while later units employed the B&W 2Q4 part.  Guess it could
have been the other way around, but...   B&W offered the 2Q4 on the market
for several years.
