HW-2036 Question

I just acquired an HW-2036, which is essentially in working condx, although
a little clean up is needed, and the mic seems to be DOA.  Pretty nice radio
for general use, though.
Is it possible to convert the 2036 into a 2036A  ?  I understand the only
difference in the synthesizer range, but that may be a tall order.
Any general tips on this radio ??
