Hi Dale,
You need to retune the het oscillator coils on the SB-300. With a voltmeter
on the red jack, tune the coils for max reading then back off a little. As
you back off in one direction the voltage will abruptly drop and in the
other direction drop slowly. You want the slow side. The cables between the
two rigs should be RG62 - 2 ft long. although the only critical one is the
het oscillator cable.
The "Locked / Unlocked" switch to the left of the meter control which VFO
tunes the SB-401. In the Locked position (left) the -300 tunes both sets,.
In the Unlocked each set tunes itself. The -401 cannot tune the -300.
This all should work.
