Heath HD-1250 Solid State Dip meter

Some years ago (was it 25 or so already?) I asked Heath tech assistance
about the low RF output power of the HD-1250 dip meter relative to
previous tube types, making use more difficult, and they told me to
double its power source to 18V by wiring up two 9V batteries in series.
Was anyone else told this?
